Save Farm - A Magical Weekend Getaway!

What a discovery this has been! Thanks to a dear friend Rajashree. I simply called her up one Friday evening after work and said ' You know, I'm looking for a hide out for a weekend.' She instantly came up with this name - Save Farm (pronounced Saave Farm) in Dahanu.

I was waiting for Harshad (bf) to finish office and had time to kill. Thus I logged into their website which said - "Save Farm is situated just 130km from Mumbai and Surat. This place wrapped in greenery is an ideal place to soothe your body and mind. It offers you a getaway from your day to day routine schedules." As if they'd read my mind!

Rajashree had mentioned about some activities, but hadn't given me any detail. And what a surprise the activities were - after a quiet morning breakfast it's a pleasant surprise when someone casually mentions to you in the midst of the jungle - now hang on to this and cross the lake!

And this is just one of the many activities you'd be surprised with - and all of them come as a part of the  package. Though I did not photograph all of the best ones, as I was too engrossed!

You are in a jungle. Nobody's gonna watch if you behave your age or....

All the 'houses' are modelled on the 'Warli' way of living. The 'Warli's' are an indegenious tribe living in Mountainous as well as coastal areas of Maharashtra - Gujrat border and surrounding areas.

This includes the Dahanu District where the Save Farm is situated.

The name they've given to the 'village premises' in which the guest's houses are located is 'Tarpa.'  Houses are designed either as huts, farmer's bungalows or tree houses.

Their famous wall paintings use a very basic graphic vocabulary: a circle, a triangle and a square. The circle representing the sun and the moon, the triangle derived from mountains and pointed trees. Only the square seems to be a human invention, indicating a sacred enclosure or a piece of land.

The food is cooked by Warli women in the kitchen of a hut within the premises of the Tarpa village. The food is 'satvik' and alcohol is prohibited.

Tea - lovers rejoice! The tea is out of the world and unlimited!

Don't be upset if you are unable to rent a tree house for your stay. Just jump on this one which is open to all....

The charges - they depend on the room you rent. The packages range from Rs. 1,200 per head to Rs. 2,500 per head for 24 hours, depending on the house you've chosen. There are houses  big enough to accommodate a family of 7. The package covers dinner, breakfast and lunch and unlimited tea and biscuits. Then there is an amazing farm tour in this vehicle which is also called 'Tarpa' and then there are the adventure games. All of this included in the package!

This is the Tarpa on which you are taken for the farm and museum tour.

The tour also exposes you to a world of magical herbs and Ayurveda!

                       ...the museum

And joggers and runners, you'll never forget this run!

Prior booking is essential, else you may be sent away due to unavailability of rooms on a weekend. And mind you the closest hotel available is none! Weekdays aren't a problem though.

So come on, pick up your phones and directly ask Mr. Prabhakar Save or his son Anil Save to make a booking for you. You must have guessed who they are!
